Foundation’s New Sidekick: SPF

26 Aug

Even though September starts next week (WHAA??), it’s still hot and sunny where I am, so I’ve been thinking about skin protection a lot.

I obviously rave about my daily face moisturizer with SPF, but I realized something: putting it on in the morning is not enough to last through the entire day. [See the SPF explanation here if you’re not sure why this is.]

So what’s a girl to do? The answers:

1. Reapply throughout the day. This is a good option if I’m not wearing makeup, but I usually am. So now what?

2. Get a foundation with SPF. This you can reapply without feeling like you should have washed your face first.

The good news is that there are lot of great of options out there these days. Here are some of my favorites (prices are approximations):

Powder-Me SPF (30) Dry Sunscreen from Jane Iredale ($44) — it comes in Tanned and Translucent (bonus points for the Skin Cancer Foundation recommendation!)

The Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas SPF 15 from Philosophy ($35) — it comes in seven shades from Ivory to Extra Rich

Hello Flawless! SPF 15 from Benefit Cosmetics ($34) — it comes in nine shades from Ivory to Nutmeg

bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation from Bare Escentuals ($26) — it comes in 20 shades (!) from Fair to Warm Deep

What do you do when it comes to protecting your skin while looking fabulous?
